Information about ION: Waterloo Region's Light Rail Transit System

Bus Stop.jpg

Last week I attended an information session about our Region's Light Rail Transit (LRT) System. I went because public transportation is one of the ways I get around town, so I wanted to learn more about how our updated system will operate. And, like many people in Ward 5 who use public transportation, or who would like to use it more, I am especially curious how buses will connect with the LRT

At the information session we learned more about the proposed routes and connections, as well as a whole host of other useful information like fares, which will be the same on buses or trains and signage and safety). I'd like to bring attention to two important points in more detail now.

How to give feedback: The Region is already thinking about possible challenges that might arise, so they can address them before the LRT is up and running. They know, though, that there will always be more ways to improve the system and are encouraging ongoing feedback from the public. They will be having some more information sessions and are letting people know they can provide feedback by calling this customer service number 24 hours a day, seven days a week: (519) 585-7555. The more calls they get, the better the case they can make for change.

Get help planning your route: There are a whole bunch of handy tools to plan your trip like Easy Go, Google Maps, next bus text where you can text your bus stop's four digit number to 57555 and you'll receive a response with the next three bus times. But, did you know that someone from the Region is also available to help you plan your trips in person at a public location that is most convenient for you? I didn't! If personal assistance is something you are interested in you can contact 519-585-7555 and select option 4.

One last thing: The presentation didn't mention the public art that will be going in at some of the stops. As a member of the Public Art Advisory Committee with the Region of Waterloo, I'm pretty excited about this. You can check out some of the selected art pieces here.
